Tax Planning Checklist
Review your last tax return.
What is your marginal tax rate?
Do you have carry-forward losses?
What was the ratio of short-term to long-term capital gains realized?
Analyze your tax return to identify strategies that might minimize your tax bill.
Look for tax loss harvesting opportunities in your portfolio.
Evaluate asset location to determine if all your holdings are in the appropriate accounts.
Make sure to take the required minimum distribution before year-end.
Consider a Roth conversion to potentially reduce future tax liabilities.
Explore tax-efficient vehicles such as donor-advised funds, charitable trusts, and qualified charitable distributions.
Create a retirement distribution plan to optimize the taxes you pay on your annual distributions.
Revisit the option of making a qualified charitable distribution from your IRA if you don’t need all your required minimum distribution and are concerned about taxes.
Consider a 529 rollover to a Roth IRA if you do not need the funds for educational purposes.
